Another hike - not as successful

Last Sunday we headed up the mountains this time heading due east out past the fancy neighborhoods and towards the ski resorts.  To get to the ski resorts you have to drive about an hour away and do 40 switchbacks up the mountains (they are actually marked).  Rather than get nauseous, we veered off at switchback number 15 to Yerba Loca Sanctuary.

We had a quick picnic along a stream and then headed up a path that said La Paloma Glacier 17 km.  We weren't going that far but the complaining started right away ;-)

We first bribed them with Bilz (Chilean soda) - it didn't work

It was a gradual incline, really
Whatever kept them happy

Yes - Rob really is in Chile with us - he just usually takes the photos

They suggested that the grown-ups take a walk by themselves and they stayed back and giggled.

A form of "conditioning" -  hike for one hour = potato chips

We survived but the car didn't.  I think that I am starting to appreciate the concept of four-wheel drives.  Something was dragging under the car the whole way back to town and we finally figured out it was a piece of plastic that normally covers part of the engine.  At least it wasn't the engine?  We'll have to be really careful this summer when we do a lot more off-road adventures...
